Product Description
Rain Bird ET256-50S Drip Irrigation Pressure Compensating 1/4" Emitter Tubing, 6" Emitter Spacing, 50' Roll, Brown. Rain Bird's emitter tubing works like a soaker hose; only better because it doesn’t clog and requires no maintenance! Once installed, your plants and landscaped areas are perpetually watered as intended. This rugged and flexible 1/4” Drip irrigation tubing waters plants uniformly with pre-installed, pressure compensating 0.8 gallon-per-hour emitters spaced every 6". Rain Bird's pressure-compensating technology ensures all plants receive the same amount of water regardless of their position along the tubing run. Each emitter features two outlet holes on either side of tubing (180° apart) that won’t clog and require zero maintenance. Tubing is easy to unroll and stake in gardens, flower beds, ground cover or other landscaped areas. Compact coiling method allows tubing to remain coiled as its extracted; making it easy to use, store and eliminates waste. Industry leading flexibility allows tighter turns with fewer elbows for fast, easy installation. Perfect for small, narrow and tight planting areas, as well as areas with tight curves or many switchbacks. Professional-grade for unmatched resistance to chemicals, algae growth and UV damage. Unique Micro-Porous design creates an ultra-tight connection; tubing expands over fittings then shrinks making it almost impossible to remove without cutting. Designed to be used for both underground installation covered with dirt or mulch; or above ground where its brown coloring blends with natural colors. Compatible with all brands of 1/4” barbed Drip fittings. High-quality Rain Bird fittings (sold separately) are available in coupling, elbow, tee, plug and valve models; plus stakes in plastic and galvanized versions. Specifications: outside diameter 0.25", inside diameter 0.17", wall thickness 0.04”. Operating pressure 8.5 to 60 psi. Emitter tubing also available (sold separately) in 12" spacing as model: ET25-50S2. Rain Bird "The Intelligent Use of Water" .

- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2023Style: Emitter Tubing - 6" SpacingSize: 1 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseAfter having mistakenly installed an emitter with holes spaced 8 inches apart I bought this, with holes 6 inches apart, that works way better. The tubing seems to be of very good quality plastic and it is a bit rigid so you need to have plenty of staples around to fasten it to the soil to make it go where you want it to go. Also my previous emitter line seemed a bit rigid so maybe that's typical of this kind of tubing. So far it has been working very well.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2022Style: Emitter Tubing - 6" SpacingSize: 1 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseWe have converted our old sprinkler system to drip to conserve water. The picture shows a bank with Rain Bird pressure compensation tubing with inline drip emitters installed cross ways on the bank. The pressure compensation feature insures that water is applied evenly at the top and bottom of the bank. We also used it in other locations and did a head to head comparison with new dig non pressure compensating drip lines. The result was that the dig tubing emitted little or no water but the Rain Bird pressure compensation worked well. So COST is always a factor but in our minds the increase expense was validated by the pressure compensation feature. I gave the durability rating only 4 stars because we have not tested it over a winter yet ....

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2023Style: Emitter Tubing - 6" SpacingSize: 1 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseI purchased this drip tube a while ago but didn’t really use it in my garden right away. I think what turned me off in the beginning, was the difficulty of laying it out and inserting barbs, because it isn’t very pliable.
I decided to work on my irrigation, now that Summer is coming to an end, and do a major overhaul. I’m also trying out square foot gardening, which is new to me, and I thought I could do a grid pattern with this drip tubing.
I laid it in the sun to make it a little more flexible but it’s still definitely difficult to work with. I also had these 4 inch long stakes for 1/4” tubing, that I purchased from my local hardware store, and I made my grid.
It definitely took a little practice to get it right, but I think I have it figured out now. I wanted to elevate the tubing above the soil and mulch, so that it drips down and doesn’t lay in the dirt. I use the stakes to elevate the tubing maybe an inch above the ground and this works like a charm. It is actually pretty awesome and the stiffness of the tubing I think helps it stay elevated.
I have my 12 x 12 squares laid out for my square foot gardening in my 2 x 4 bed and the whole bed is perfectly moist from running this for 15 minutes.. I’m an urban gardener with a tiny backyard.
I decided to post this review because maybe it will help someone else. I have definitely struggled with figuring out irrigation and so I’m pretty happy with the set up. The only problem is I can’t find those stakes anywhere but my local hardware store but luckily they had a pack of 50. I’m using 6-8 stakes per square, which is probably overkill, but I did anyway. Lol .

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2022Style: Emitter Tubing - 6" SpacingSize: 1 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseI put this down my bean rows in the garden tonight and turned them on. Superior in every way to drippers or those little sprayers on their own stake. The coverage is spot on where it should be. It is quite stiff, but it relaxed very quickly in 90 degree sun and was easy to lay where I wanted it to be. I used orbit connectors to hook it to my main supply line and it is tough to get them shoved in this tubing. But on the plus side, they aint gonna come off or leak, which I could care less if it did leak. It's a dripper line, it leaks every 6 inches anyway. Will be buying more of this next year when I expand my garden.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2024Style: Emitter Tubing - 6" SpacingSize: 1 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseI have 16 baby trees in the ground. I run 18 inch lengths which is about 5 to 6 emitter holes. wrap this around a tree trunk to a Tee fitting, to 18" of 1/4" soft line, to the 1/2" main line. I run 5 to 6 trees per main line using a 25 psi regulator at the timer/faucet they all get even distribution. I set it to 2 hours every 5 days and I just survived my first summer with no loss of trees.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2024Style: Emitter Tubing - 6" SpacingSize: 1 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseWe live in a dry area so drip watering is the only way to go.
We used this tubing a few years ago in both of our front flowerbeds and we’re SO glad that we did! I can’t say enough good things about it!
Husband made a manifold of sorts & we ran this tubing off of that in 5 rows about 8” apart. Then we ran the tubing through 5 short pieces of conduit to run underneath the ‘sidewalk’ (flagstones). This was such a difficult area that everything planted there in the previous six years failed miserably.
But now to our delight this drip tubing allowed us to plant some very beautiful shade giving shrubs and flowers. We have gotten so many compliments, even from my cousin who is married to the owner of a landscaping company! She said that they couldn’t believe that we did it ourselves.
So we’ve decided that it makes it all worth repeating the project on the backside of our house which is currently being put in.
THANK YOU for the FABULOUS product!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Used for indoor bonsai watering system
Style: Emitter Tubing - 6" SpacingSize: 1 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseConnected this drip tube to a small fountain pump and plastic water reservoir tub to use as an indoor watering system while on vacation. Combined with a timer it worked really well to water plants over three week period. You’ll need to calibrate how much water you need and then determine how much water discharges through the drippers in your setup to then calculate how long to have the pump turn on and how often you need to water. If you had this setup within a flood table or similar container it could collect any excess water back into the reservoir similar to an Ebb and flow system.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consistent Water
Style: Emitter Tubing - 6" SpacingSize: 1 Count (Pack of 1)Verified PurchaseI ordered a RainBird drip irrigation system, part by part, to water my vegetable garden (with large raised beds). One of the challenges we face is that we move the vegetables from bed to bed each year, and so it used to take a lot of time to adjust and rebuild our old system as the plants changed places.
With my new RainBird system I was able to set up a single long 1/4" drip tubing (with 6" hole spacing) for each bed so that it can be laid out quickly around all the plants, the closer the spacing the more water etc.. The backbone of the system is a 1/2" main line where I used a bunch of T's and L's to smoothly run the main pipe under the soil, popping up a branch over the edge of each raised bed. I used 1/4" barbed coupling fittings (get the purple RainBird tool for these!) to connect the 1/4" drip tubing to the 1/2" main line branches.
All connections went together really well, the pieces are consistent, I have not found any leaks, and best of all I was able to install on my own in under 2 hours, including burying the main line pipe! I am very satisfied, and would strongly recommend this product.
