by Tom Lanier, Sprinkler Pros Bright autumn gives way to winter’s dim/Harvest time’s bounty dries in warm wind
The leaves take their turn/Falling and floating—a twist and a churn
The autumn moon watches over the spoils in the field
After its waning crescent darkness does yield
Then the heavens sparkle and shout, “Look at me!”
As I gander I trip in the dark and scrape my knee
So the beautiful landscape cries, “Illuminate me!”
Landscape lighting is a fast growing trend and for good reasons. You spend thousands of dollars for a landscape renewal and then when you come home each night nearly half the year in the dark you and your neighbors and passersby can’t even enjoy it. Whassup withat?? Instead come home to a breathtaking show and feel great knowing that you’re giving the gift of beauty to all to see! Consider brightening up these holidays.
Landscape lighting has come a long way from the old Malibu light sets that mom and dad bought in the ‘60s. Those poor things didn’t do much, but gave a little glow and once the bulbs burned out or the car or mower ran over them or you smashed them while catching the winning football pass with your friends, they were neglected and eventually tossed.
Well today’s a new day and landscape lighting is in a new era with brilliant lights and great looking fixtures of copper and coated metals of differing colors to match your taste and blend well with their surroundings. The wiring is run underground and the installation is fairly noninvasive. It’s still low voltage so it doesn’t require an electrical contractor to install it and it’s easy on your energy bill.
The lighting can accent unique items in your landscape and property including special trees, plants, and structure.
One of the overlooked benefits is liability. Illuminating your walkways and driveways is not only a safety feature, but can also be inviting and artsy.
Up lighting and down lighting, recessed and underwater--landscape lighting is in your future. A side note: avoid LED landscape lighting until the bulb technology has been improved. Currently they slowly dim with age giving the lighting a dingy look.
